Why I Hesitated to Talk About Weight Loss
When we asked our community what kind of free guide they wanted most, one of the top answers was:
“How to lose weight naturally.”
And I’ll be honest—I hesitated.
For years, I’ve had a complicated relationship with the word “weight loss.” It’s wrapped up in diet culture, quick fixes, and the idea that your worth is tied to your size. I never wanted to be another voice telling you to shrink yourself.
I don’t trust most weight loss marketing. It preys on insecurity, pushes restriction, and focuses on what to take away instead of what to add in.
But here’s what I’ve learned:
Your weight is not the enemy.
Your body is not the problem.
The real work is understanding what your body is trying to tell you—and how to support it so it feels safe enough to let go of what it doesn’t need anymore.
That’s why I finally created the Lose Weight Naturally guide—and why this blog is your gentle introduction to it.

My Story: From Diet Culture to Deep Healing
I grew up with all the 90s and 2000s messaging:
-
• “Low-fat.”
-
• “Zero calories.”
-
• “Beach body ready.”
Even when I was healthy, I thought I “should” be dieting.
Later, in college, I ate more processed foods, felt lonely, and used food to cope without realizing it. I gained weight, but more importantly, I lost balance. My eczema flared. My digestion was off. My mood swung all over the place.
For years, I tried:
-
• Eating less
-
• Working out more
-
• Starting new plans
None of it lasted—because I was trying to fix everything from the outside.
My real transformation began when I discovered holistic health. I learned that food isn’t just calories; it’s information. Every bite sends a message to your body.
When those messages are full of nutrients, fiber, and plant compounds, your body begins to repair, rebalance, and release—naturally.
Today, I don’t own a scale. I pay attention to my:
-
• Energy
-
• Digestion
-
• Mood
-
• Skin
-
• How I feel when I wake up
That’s what “healthy weight” means to me now—feeling light, not just looking smaller.
Why Weight Isn’t the Problem (It’s a Symptom)
One of the biggest shifts in my own journey was realizing:
Weight gain is often a symptom—not the root cause.
Your body is intelligent. It doesn’t store fat because it’s lazy or broken. It stores fat as protection:
-
• From inflammation
-
• From toxins
-
• From blood sugar crashes
-
• From chronic stress
-
• From emotional overwhelm
When your body feels safe and nourished, it can naturally move toward its own healthy weight. When it’s under stress—physically or emotionally—it holds on.
So instead of:
“How do I lose weight fast?”
Ask:
“What is my body trying to protect me from?”
That one question changes everything.
The Four Foundations of Natural Weight Loss
To lose weight naturally (without strict dieting), we need to look at four key areas:
1. Metabolism: Are Your Cells Being Nourished?
Your metabolism isn’t just “fast or slow.” It’s about whether your cells have the nutrients they need to create energy.
Things that slow metabolism:
-
• Undereating or skipping meals
-
• Chronic dieting
-
• Living on caffeine instead of real food
-
• Nutrient deficiencies
Supporting metabolism looks like:
-
• Eating enough (especially plants, fiber, and protein)
-
• Starting the day with minerals and vitamins
-
• Stabilizing blood sugar, not spiking it
2. Hormones: Are Your Messages Clear or Confused?
Hormones like insulin, cortisol, thyroid hormones, estrogen and progesterone are constantly sending messages about when to store, burn, rest, and repair.
When these are out of balance, you can experience:
-
• Stubborn weight (especially around the belly)
-
• Cravings
-
• Energy crashes
-
• Mood swings
-
• Bloating
You don’t have to know every detail, but knowing hormones matter helps you stop blaming “willpower” and start supporting your biology.
3. Inflammation: Is Your Body in Protective Mode?
Chronic inflammation tells your body it’s under threat, so it switches into protection mode—holding onto fat and water to “buffer” stress.
Signs inflammation might be an issue:
-
• Puffiness or bloating
-
• Joint stiffness
-
• Fatigue after meal
-
• Recurring skin issues
-
• Constant sugar or caffeine cravings
Anti-inflammatory foods (greens, berries, turmeric, ginger, seeds, nuts) and less sugar, alcohol, and processed foods make a huge difference.
4. Nervous System: Does Your Body Feel Safe?
This might be the most important piece.
If you’re constantly stressed, rushing, anxious, or hard on yourself, your nervous system will stay in survival mode. And in survival mode, your body holds onto everything.
Simple tools to shift toward safety:
-
• Deep breathing before meals
-
• Walking outside
-
• Stretching or gentle yoga
-
• Journaling
-
• Being kinder to yourself in the mirror
When your body feels safe, it stops clinging and starts releasing.

Cravings, Stress & Emotional Eating: What Your Body Is Saying
Cravings are not a sign that you’re weak. They’re messages.
Common roots of cravings:
-
• Blood sugar imbalance – from skipping meals, caffeine on an empty stomach, or processed foods
-
• Nutrient deficiencies – your body literally asking for what it’s missing
-
• Emotional stress – using food to soothe, distract, or numb
-
• Habit – patterns your brain has learned over time
If you notice your cravings peak late afternoon or evening, you’re not alone. That’s usually when:
-
• Your blood sugar dips
-
• Cortisol crashes
-
• Decision fatigue sets in
-
• Emotions catch up
Instead of fighting cravings with more rules, natural weight loss is about asking:
“What is this craving asking for? Food, rest, hydration, comfort, or care?”
That’s the kind of question that creates long-term change.
Eat More, Not Less: Why Real Food Is the Shift
Here’s one of my core beliefs:
You don’t need to eat less. You need to eat better.
When you focus on whole, plant-rich, fiber-filled foods:
-
• You feel full and satisfied
-
• Your blood sugar stabilizes
-
• Your hormones calm down
-
• Your cravings soften
You send your body a clear signal:
You’re safe. You’re nourished. You don’t need to hold on.
This is very different from dieting. It’s a shift from punishment to partnership.
