My Story: Letting Go of the Scale
When I was in college, I stood on the scale every single morning — like clockwork. That little number had the power to ruin my day, or make me feel like I was “on track.”
Looking back, I realize how much power I gave that number over my mood, my self-esteem, and even my choices.
Somewhere along my health journey, I decided to get rid of it. I stopped buying batteries for it. Eventually, I threw it out.
It’s been over 10 years since I’ve had a scale in my house — and honestly? I haven’t missed it for a second.
Because the truth is:
✨ My weight does not define me.
✨ My worth isn’t measured in pounds.
✨ How I feel is far more important than what I weigh.
Why the Scale Can Be Misleading
It’s easy to think of your weight as the ultimate measure of health — but that’s simply not true.
Here are a few reasons why relying on your weight can actually sabotage your progress:
✅ Your weight constantly fluctuates. Hormones, water retention, inflammation, even time of day can make your weight swing several pounds in either direction — even if nothing has actually changed.
✅ It doesn’t show the full picture. You can lose fat and gain muscle — and actually weigh more — while being leaner, stronger, and healthier.
✅ It can become obsessive. Weighing yourself daily can lead to a toxic cycle of restriction, guilt, and overthinking.
What to Focus On Instead
Rather than letting a number determine your progress or your mood, here are more meaningful ways to measure your health:
👗 How Your Clothes Fit
Do your jeans feel more comfortable? Are your shirts looser? Clothes don’t lie — and they can tell you more than a scale ever could.
🪞 How You Feel Looking in the Mirror
Do you see more energy in your face? Do you feel stronger and more confident?
✨ How You Feel in Your Body
Are you sleeping better? Do you have more energy? Less bloating? More strength? These are the real markers of progress.

Healthy Habits Over Quick Fixes
It’s easy to fall into the trap of “all or nothing” thinking — but true, lasting health comes from small, daily steps.
Here’s what helped me:
🥗 Eat more plants — focus on nourishing your body with real, whole foods.
🚶 Move your body — not as punishment, but as a way to feel strong and capable.
💧 Hydrate — water makes a bigger difference than you think.
🛌 Prioritize sleep — rest is where the magic happens.
🧘 Reduce stress — your mind and body are connected.
When you focus on building healthy habits, step by step, the weight will follow. But even more importantly — your health, energy, and confidence will soar.
