A story I wish I heard from another woman years ago.

Hi love, I’m Kristel and today I want to share something I’ve never really spoken about in this much detail before.
My personal hormone story.

Because if you’ve ever felt “off,” overwhelmed, emotional, bloated, tired, or unlike yourself…
I want you to know you’re not alone and nothing is wrong with you.

For most of my life, I knew almost nothing about my hormones.

Besides a tiny chapter in biology class, no one ever explained what hormones actually do
how they shape our mood, energy, appetite, sleep, confidence, intuition — our entire internal world.

And because I didn’t understand my hormones, I spent years believing I was the problem.

But I wasn’t.



 

🌿 The Painful Periods No One Talked About

In my twenties, my periods were so painful that I sometimes couldn’t get out of bed.
I remember lying on the floor, curled into myself, wondering why this was happening.

I’d sit in board meetings pretending everything was fine, smiling, nodding…
while inside I wanted to scream:

“I’m here, but I’m not myself today.”

And nobody talked about it.
Not my friends, not my coworkers, not my doctors.

It felt like being a woman was supposed to be this silent endurance game.

But inside, my hormones were whispering:
“I need support.”

I just didn’t know how to listen yet.

 


 

🌿 Life Happened… And My Hormones Shifted With It

Then came the seasons of life no woman is ever truly prepared for:

  • • pregnancy

  • • miscarriage

  • • postpartum

  • • breastfeeding

  • • sleep deprivation

  • • stress

  • • running a company

  • • moving across the world

  • • raising babies

  • • supporting Michael through cancer

  • • rebuilding our life

Each chapter changed my hormones in ways I never expected.

I kept thinking, “Why didn’t anyone tell me this could happen?!”

And then I learned something that changed everything:

Your hormones don’t fall apart because your body is broken…

They fall apart because they are responding to stress.

Not just emotional stress.
Biological stress.
Nervous system stress.
Life stress.
Invisible stress your body tries so hard to hold for you.

And when stress rises, something very specific happens inside your body:

1️⃣ Cortisol rises.

The “survival hormone.”
Your body thinks it needs to protect you.

2️⃣ Progesterone drops.

Because your body cannot prioritize reproduction during danger.

3️⃣ Estrogen becomes unbalanced.

Too high, or not clearing well.

And suddenly…

  • • PMS intensifies

  • • cramps worsen

  • • mood swings appear

  • • sleep becomes unpredictable

  • • cravings increase

  • • libido disappears

  • • cycles shift

  • • bloating comes out of nowhere

  • • you feel “off” and can’t explain why

Not because you did anything wrong.

But because your hormones are trying to adapt to your life.

🌿 Women Were Never Supposed to Live Like This

Here’s something I didn’t understand for years:

Women are cyclical.
Men are linear.

Women shift through internal seasons every month.
Men have the same 24-hour cycle every day.

And yet… we’re expected to operate like them:

same productivity every day
same energy every day
same emotional state every day
same output every day

It’s not natural.
It’s not sustainable.
And it’s not our fault that our hormones suffer.

I now host women’s circles where we gather, sit, breathe, cry, laugh, share — without judgment, without advice, without pretending.

And every time, I hear the same thing:

“I thought I was the only one.”

You’re not.

Your hormone struggles are not a flaw.
They’re a message.

A message that your body is asking for support, rest, nourishment, breath, balance, connection.
